In the context of climate change, declining water resources, and multiple challenges to agricultural production, the Canh Tang reservoir has been identified as a project of strategic significance. With a total investment of over VND 4,100 billion and a storage capacity of 91 million m³, this is the largest irrigation reservoir in Phu Tho Province, second only to Hoa Binh Reservoir.

The project serves multiple purposes: providing irrigation water for 6,460 hectares of agricultural land in 17 communes of Lac Son and Yen Thuy districts (Hoa Binh Province); supplementing dry-season water for about 2,500 hectares in Thach Thanh District (Thanh Hoa Province) with a discharge flow of 2 m³/s; supplying water for 200 hectares of Lac Thinh Industrial Park (Yen Thuy District); and providing domestic water for 3,500 residents of Vu Ban Town (Lac Son District). In addition, the reservoir also releases water to maintain environmental flows during the dry season, contributes to flood reduction downstream, facilitates aquaculture development, improves ecological landscapes, and promotes tourism.
The completion of the Canh Tang reservoir not only ensures water security and supports sustainable agricultural development, but also opens opportunities for integrated exploitation of economic, social, and environmental values, meeting the development requirements of the new era.

With a capacity of over 91 million cubic meters, Cánh Tạng Reservoir is regarded as the largest irrigation reservoir in Northern Vietnam.
PECC1's Role in the Project
In this project, EVNPECC1 played a crucial role under Package No. 05, with the main tasks including:
- Conducting topographic and geological investigation for the preparation of the Technical Design and Construction Drawing Design.
- Conducting hydraulic calculation of back water.
- Preparing the Technical Design, Construction Drawings, and Cost Estimation.
